Ethereum’s next upgrade, called “Arrow” will delay the Difficulty Bomb by 2 years. It has been postponed until June 2022. What are some other upgrades Ethereum developers are working on?

Ethereum’s Arrow Glacier upgrade delays Difficulty Bomb until June 2022 |

At block number 13,773,000, Ethereum will get a planned update, which should happen around December 8th.

The Arrow Glacier network update will postpone the difficulty explosion until June 2022, when Ethereum is expected to switch to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

As Ethereum moves to POS, Arrow Glacier will provide miners some breathing room.

Pushing back the Ice Age/Difficulty bomb has also been done in the Byzantium, Constantinople, and London network updates, according to Tim Beiko, the Ethereum Foundation’s chair of all core developers.

Arrow Glacier is approaching.

Around December 8th, the update will go live on block 13,773,000. The only thing that has changed is that the difficulty bomb has been pushed back… Hopefully, this will be the last time. Upgrade your nodes

The EIP-4345 Difficulty Bomb was set to detonate in December 2021, increasing the difficulty level for miners on the network tenfold. Due to the fact that the difficulty bomb only impacts Proof-of-Work networks, it was decided to postpone the bomb on the mainnet and complete the Proof-of-Stake transition on the Ropsten test network.

Aside from EIP-4345, no additional modifications have been incorporated in the update. The update would postpone the difficulty bomb until June 2022, when the current Ethereum mainnet is expected to join with the Beacon Chain, thereby ending Proof-of-Work Ethereum.

EIP-4345 will be further delayed if “the merging” is not completed by June 2022.

Node operators must update their client versions to the newest ones specified in the blog post in order to be compatible with the Arrow Glacier upgrade. Users of Ethereum using centralized exchanges and online wallet services are not needed to make any adjustments prior to the update, but they may be compelled to do so in the future if their service provider mandates it.
