Popular talk show host Ellen Degeneres asked Shark Tank star Mark Cuban about cryptocurrencies and non-transferable tokens on The Ellen Degeneres Show, which aired Tuesday. In addition to explaining crypto to Ms. Degeneres, Mr. Cuban tried to convince her to accept docecoin in her business.
Ellen Degeneris tries to understand dogecoin
Shark Tank star Mark Cuban appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Tuesday. Degeneres is a popular comedian, television host, actress, writer and producer. Cuban is the owner of the Dallas Mavericks team in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Mark Cuban told me about Dogecoin today. I’m still not sure I understand it or how to pronounce it, but it sure is fun to say, DeGeneres tweeted.
Degeneris spoke with Cuban on the topic of cryptocurrencies and non-decodable tokens (NFTs). Is this something we should all be paying attention to? She said.
The thing about NFTs is that they are only digital collectors, described by Cuban. Don’t think about technology at all. It’s something else to collect, except that it’s digital. A Shark Tank star has been added: If you think about the things you value on your phone, it’s the youngest people who value it the most. The NFT is simply a digital collectible that you can buy, hold and sell like any other collectible.
Before the interview with Cuba aired, Degeneres launched her very first NFT to raise money for World Central Kitchen (WCK). Ellen is participating in the latest internet craze for a good cause. She is auctioning off a never-sold monologue and a selfie with her original Catwoman artwork, the auction site describes.
About cryptocurrencies, Cuban told Degeneres that they are just an asset to invest in. He continued: Bitcoin is like a digital version of gold. Ethereum is a digital version of the currency. And then there was Dogecoin, which is just fun, but the weird thing is that it went from a joke about cryptocurrencies to a digital currency.
The Dallas Mavericks began accepting dog tags as a payment method through Bitpay in March. Cuban went on to say:
At Mavs, we sell a lot of dog products, and you should check out the Ellen store. You can sell a lot of stuff for a doggie shake.
Degeneris replied: We will.
Degeneres said she was once interested in investing in real estate: Now I am interested in the subject of dogs and I really want to know more.
Cuban admitted and said this is insanity at its finest, before explaining how the dog started as a crypto-currency meme. The Dallas Mavericks owner went on to talk about cryptocurrencies as an investment, noting that Dogecoin is a better investment than buying a lottery ticket.
However, Degeneres said she was skeptical of the know-your-customer (KYC) process and that she had to provide a Social Security number when she signed up to buy dogcoins through a service like Robinhood. Cuban, for his part, said it doesn’t bother him that much.
