Solana Based Play-to-Earn Startup MonkeyBall Raises $3M From Crypto’s Top VCs And Founders

21st of October, 2021, Tel Aviv, Israel

MonkeyBall, a play-to-earn company and NFT game, has completed its current fundraising round, collecting over $3 million from a broad group of venture and angel investors.

MonkeyBall is a fast-paced, turn-based, earn-to-play arcade soccer game that resembles a mix of FIFA Street and Final Fantasy. Each player controls a team of four monkeys in the game, with the goal of defeating other teams in matches. Tokens may be earned after each victory, but they can also be earned by purchasing stadiums, hosting games, or cheering for winning teams while watching other games.

MonkeyBall is a AAA-quality game with a high production value that is being built using the Unity game engine, enabling it to be played on both desktop and mobile devices. The game is being created by a team that has unrivaled expertise in both game creation and cryptocurrency.

With a $3 million funding round from a group of angel investors, crypto-native and “conventional” venture firms, and exchanges, the business behind MonkeyBall has raised the money needed to finish and publish the game. Solana Capital, Republic, NFX, iAngels, Longhash, CMS, Jump Capital, Youbi, Morningstar Ventures, Banter Capital, Ascentive Assets, MarketAcross, Node Capital, ZBS Capital, Metaversal, Collider, BFF, and 6th Man Ventures were among the companies who invested.

Shalom Meckenzie and the founders of DraftKings; Noam Lanir, founder of Livermore; Tamir Carmi, co-founder of IronSource; founders of Dafabet, Nimrod Lehavi, co-founder of Simplex; Yoni Assia, co-founder of eToro; Joe Mccann, Yenwen Feng, Shao-Kang Lee, co-founders of Perpetual Protocol; and

Oren Langberg, MonkeyBall’s Head of Marketing, stated, “Truly thrilled to reveal this great lineup of investors who are backing MonkeyBall.” “Play-to-earn is an interesting and rapidly developing use for blockchain and NFTs, but finding high-quality games is difficult. The first genuinely popular play-to-earn game is still in the works, and we’re working hard to make MonkeyBall a reality.”

“Play-to-earn games are redefining how players interact with the virtual world,” says DraftKings’ Shalom Mckenzie. “Gaming and NFTs will be the first real broad appeal use of blockchain; all that’s needed now is to create a game that can compete with AAA titles.” The Monkey Ball squad, I think, has what it takes to get there.”

“As an early-stage investor in some of the world’s most successful mobile/casual gaming start-ups, we at NFX have been looking at the growing play-to-earn industry for a time now,” said NFX’s Gigi Levi. We think that the area will only expand, and that the victors will be those companies who combine the finest of blockchain know-how with incredible game-design skills, and that understand how to integrate the best of both blockchain and “conventional” gaming sectors. We’ve seen a lot of games, but MonkeyBall is the greatest!’
